The Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site is a combination of a national park reserve and a heritage site located in the Queen Charlotte Islands of British Columbia, Canada. Established in 1993, protection of the area is achieved through a signed cooperative management agreement between the Canadian government and the Council of the Haida Nation. Gwaii Haanas came first in a survey of US and Canadian national parks in National Geographic Traveler magazine, recognized for its pristine environment and sustainable management practices. Access to Gwaii Haanas is by sea kayak, boat or chartered float plane only. SGang Gwaay (Anthony Island), an island in the southern part of Gwaii Haanas, was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981, for the historical importance of the Haida people's art and way of life. Evidence found in the village of SGang Gwaay Llnagaay (Nan Sdins, commonly known as Ninstints) includes totem poles and remains of houses.
