Madrid doesn't exude Barcelona's funky, hip vibe. Instead, Madrid is polished to a high gleam, and it shines with Old World sophistication. But just because Madrid is more grown-up than her errant eastern sister, doesn't mean she doesn't have as much to offer by way of tourism.
Madrid is home to more than her share of extraordinary art museums. At El Prado, the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, and the Centro de Arte Reina Sofia you'll find one exquisitely assembled collection after another. Madrilenos have also mastered the art of tapas, so sup to your content in one of Madrid's many excellent tapas bars, and get ready for the big night ahead. Despite the gloss and refinement, Madrid lets her hair down at night. In fact, Madrilenos are sometimes referred to as gatos (cats) due to their out-until-dawn approach to nightlife.
By day stroll Madrid's green parks, gorgeous plazas, and superb museums. By night, prowl Madrid's bars and discotheques, or pass the time in one of the many picturesque cafes. No matter your taste, Madrid vacations are a delight.
