Tunis, the capital of Tunisia, is a shopper's paradise that mixes ancient and modern. Although it's on the Mediterranean, it doesn't have a lot to offer in the way of beaches, but a visit to the traditional shouks is a must-do. Bargain for perfumes, antiques, rugs, and handbags or haggle over a kilo of tomatoes--there are no lack of markets. It's one of the most authentic and hassle-free markets in Africa. Although it's not a typical tourist destintation, there are a lot of places to visit, including the Bardo museum, where you'll find a beautiful selection of mosaics, to the zoo in the northern part of the city.
