Great list, though! Must mention that both Nantucket and Vineyard Haven (Martha's Vineyard) will require a ferry ride (and no chance of all getting your car on one this late in the game). One great road trip from NYC is to Mohonk Mountain House - only an hour and half from the city and you feel like you're deep in the woods...
