Sea Kayaking Sites

Originally used exclusively for hunting off the coasts of Canada and Greenland, sea kayaking has now grown into a global sport which people of all levels of experience can enjoy. An equal dose of respect and reverence is shared amongst us all for open waters, and this unique way of becoming one with the sea has seen thousands take to the Internet to blog about their experiences, advice and stories. With so many quality sea kayaking sites out there, judging which are the best wasn't easy - however, our panel has now reviewed each one extensively and proudly present its list of the best.

  • On Kayaks

    http://onkayaks.squarespace.com/

If there is a single blog which puts across the sheer exhilaration to be had from traversing the open waters by kayak, Ignacio's is it. What started as a one-year long diary charting a beginner's foray into the world of paddling way back in 2004 has now grown into a self-described obsessive's regular journal on the sport.

  • Sea Kayak Photo blog

    http://seakayakphoto.blogspot.com/

Another great blog with a long history (with the archives dating back to 2006), Douglas Wilcox is a sea kayak enthusiast paddling around the coasts of Scotland and occasionally beyond. His posts usually contain details of his trips illustrated with top advice and photography.

  • Whitby Sea Anglers

    http://www.whitbyseaanglers.co.uk/

Ever wanted to bring back a physical souvenir while out on a paddling trip? How about a fish supper? Whitby Sea Anglers is an immense resource site for sea fishing with a dedicated section on fishing by kayak. If you ever wanted to get started with kayak or brush up your existing skills, WSA is the first place to check out.

  • WestCoastPaddler

    http://www.westcoastpaddler.com/

Don't let the name deceive you - WestCoastPaddler is a site dedicated to serving paddlers across the world (although a large dose of the material naturally focuses on Vancouver, one of the best areas for sea kayaking in the entire world.). A strong community sharing great banter awaits you.

  • UK Sea Kayak Guidebook

    http://www.ukseakayakguidebook.co.uk/

If you're a paddler based in the UK, you really can't go without checking out this user contributed guide book. Of particular note are the quick reference sheets including MSI broadcast times, conversion charts and tidal flow calculators tailored to your area in printable format.

  • Simon Willis

    http://www.simon-willis.blogspot.com/

Given the amount of fascinating articles, guidebooks and even podcasts he puts out for all to enjoy, nobody can accuse Simon Willis of not being dedicated to the sport! Even if you're not a massive paddling fan, Willis' main site is highly recommended given his professional adventure journalism career.

  • See Kayak

    http://www.seekayak.com/

What the See Kayak site lacks in aesthetic design it more than makes up in usefulness. The owner's refer to it as the ""largest directory of sea kayaking related web sites"" - the panel has reviewed just about every one on the Internet, and we're happy to support this statement.

  • Kayak.im

    http://www.kayak.im/

A very slick kayaking website based on paddling the Isle of Man. Catch up on gear reviews, guides, great photos and much more.

  • Kayak Quixotica

    http://www.kayakquixotica.com/

The featured photography on Kayak Quixotica is worth checking back for daily, but the main meat and potatoes of the site has to be Derrick's highly readable blog posts which are always headed by a great quote or poem.

  • Sea Kayaking Cornwall

    http://www.seakayakingcornwall.com/

There are, of course, plenty of reasons to go to Cornwall. SKC gives you yet another, with enough inspirational photos and trip reports to make you want to head down there for your own kayak adventure.

  • ExpeditionKayak

    http://www.expeditionkayak.com/content/

An excellent collection of sea kayaking tales and literature for you to enjoy from the comfort of your own home, as well as resources to make your own plans come into fruition.
