Alaskan Cruises

Alaska has been an excellent place for cruise ships to take their passengers for very many years. Firstly, it has benefited from being an American state. That makes it much more of an attractive prospect for American tourists who want to visit. But you may be surprised to discover that Alaska is in fact a very young state indeed — it has actually only even been a state since 1959. But it's not the political history of the huge place that draws people to visit on cruise ship, but it is in fact its huge size and wonderful scenery that draws more people to the huge place. In the Aleut language, the world Alaska is a translation for "the great land." So it's no wonder that so many cruise lines take advantage of this huge piece of land up to the north west of the United States. Alaska has a huge shoreline. This means that cruise ships can always surprise people with the places that they take them. It's probably also true that even the captains who have been taking cruises up to the Alaskan islands and coastline for many years still lack knowledge about huge swaths of the place. The Aleutian islands are a huge chain of islands which further allow cruise ships to explore more deeply — they can anchor a little way away from the island and then send people who want a closer look on boats to check out the island. There are also many active volcanos around this area. Where else in the world are you able to check out so many volcanos from the safety of a cruise ship? While in Alaska checking out the volcanos you'll be able to check out the wonderful elegance of Mount Shishaldin which is the most perfect volcanic cone on earth, and it is almost constantly erupting which means that cruise passengers can be delighted by seeing an active volcano in part of its life cycle, and while it is currently, still, changing the shape of the continents. With more than three million lakes in Alaska there is also of course a great many options for shore-excursions. Alaska has become more famous in recent years for its political scandals, for vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, and for its destruction of the environment. But it's clear that the real thrill is the environment, and it's in Alaska's interest to keep it nice and clean.
